Yo from British Columbia, Canada guys!
This update includes about 250 new photos and 19 new AVI Video's for you to check out. As usual you can also have a look see at the map at the bottom of this page to see just where I have been.
I blinked and all of a sudden it was over a month ago that I departed Winnipeg. I had a fantastic stop there and will miss the gang lots! Here is a big vote of thanks to the Kutzan's for putting up with this old Aussie! See ya soon!
My next stop was the city of Calgary, Alberta. Its been about 8 years since I was last there, so I only stopped in for a day having seen most things in my previous visit with the exception of the Canada Olympic Park where much of the 1988 Calgary Olympic Games were held. If I had though ahead, I could have managed a go on the public Luge track, but alas I missed out. Click here to see what public Luge is like...
My main objective for this part of my trip was to visit the Rocky's! So off to Lake Louise I headed. Having seen so much of Canada over the past 10 years, it was fantastic to finally get to visit the Canadian Rockies! On my first day in the mountains, I walked up from the Lake Louise Village to a very frozen Lake Louise. The sign showed all the walking paths, but in February, you don't need them. You simply walk on the lake its self where there is much to do, including cross country skiing, public ice skating, Ice Hockey or if your mad enough you can go Ice Climbing! The kids can even play in a Ice Castle or you can check out the Ice Sculpting. Check out the video of me standing on the lake here.
I walked to the other end of the Lake and as far as I could get to the the glaciers that feed the lake and its a fantastic view. I look forward to coming back in the summer some time in the future to check out once again.
The next day I headed up the other side of the valley and did a day on my trusty snowboard on the Lake Louise Ski Area. Again its a fantastic view, but when its negative 20 plus wind chill, the experience tends to be lessened some what. Anyway, I had a good number of hours on the mountain, but was happy for the warmth of the hostel at the end of the day where I and a few fellow travelers managed to warm ourselves with a few beers. Click here for the video view back across to the lake.
On a bloody cold Lake Louise morning where it was negative 22 in the Valley, I headed to Vernon, B.C. to visit my old mates Kerry, Jen and the lovely little Brynn. Vernon is about 4-5 hours drive East of Vancouver and a lovely part of the world. Its only about 20min drive up to the Silver Star ski resort and in the summer, I'm sure outdoor activities about. It was fab to catch up guys. Next time I'll take your advise and not order the large pizza unless half the rugby side is coming over too!
From Vernon, it was back to my old stomping grounds of Vancouver, Squamish and Whistler and its here that I do this update. Recent highlights have included shovelling lots and lots of snow in Squamish, a lovely day of snowboarding on Cypress Mountain above Vancouver and back on old Whistler Mountain with mates. Click here to check out the fantastic Sun Set on Cypress mountain or click here to see the view from the very top of Whistler Mountain on a lovely sunny day!
Anyway, perhaps the biggest update I can offer is the fact that I will be spending an additional two months here in an attempt to rid myself of the travel gut with the aid of my very own personal trainer in the form of old mate Albert.
I now arrive back in Europe on May 24th and from there the plan gets a bit hazy. I still hope to spend June in Germany watching Australia compete in the Soccer World Cup, but have yet to figure out the logistics of it all on my own. Either way, I look forward to visiting lots of people and places so stay tuned one and all!
Lots of Hugs and Kisses
PS, Please always remember that this page and the map below don't show/list ALL of the locations I have been to. Searching by location name or by map (fully interactive county to country etc!) is the best way to see it all! Enjoy!!!
NOTE: Not all of the places I have visited are shown on this map, but you can get a good idea of where i have been. Enjoy!
