G'Day from Amsterdam everyone!!!
Well, it was fantastic while it lasted, but North America is now behind me and I'm back in sunny warm Europe. So where exactly in Europe and whatís the battle plan you ask? Well, Iíve just started a new job based in Amsterdam! Yep, Iím now living and working in Holland where my commute to work is a 10 minute bike ride just like thousands of Dutchies!
Any way, please accept my apologies for such a long break between updates. Rest assured Iíll be doing them at least every other month from now on. That said and done, this update includes two new diary entries, lots of photos and cool videos.
The new diary entries are:
So whatís the quick update? Well after a fantastic two and a half months getting fit on the West Coast of Canada at my mate Alberts place, I find myself back in Europe and back in the work force. I decided that my work skills needed updating and it was time for a change from England. So I headed to Amsterdam to start the search for work as I already knew lots of people in that part of the world.
I did of course make a stop in London on the way to have a few catch up beers with old mates, but the highlight of my last stop in old Blighty was an OíConnor family reunion! The photo on the left was taken when last we met some 32 years ago in 1974. We have all changed just a touch in that intervening period! See if you can spot Neil shown on the right in the old photo. FAB to see you all again and rest assured it will not be another 32 years till next we meet!
While looking for work I managed to fill in my time not problem. For the full story, click on the diary entry for Germany 2006, but to cut a long story short, I managed to make it to two of Australiaís World Cup games! I can say I was at the Australia Vs Japan game, our ONLY ever World Cup victory to date. I can also sadly lay claim to being at the Australia Vs Italy game when the cheating *#@$?! knocked us out of the cup. Oh well, you win some, you loose some I guess. A bunch of us also did a road trip to Munich and the Brazil Vs Australia game, but getting tickets for that was a no go, so we just enjoyed the party atmosphere and a few Bavarian beers! Aussie Aussie Aussie!
In the end, it took about a month to get a job. The task made all the easier given the fantastic help I got from Tip, Sappho, Mike and Stef. Thanks guys! I owe you many many more beers in Vondelpark and look forward to lots of good times in Amsterdam!!!
Any way, my new job is with a Dutch company called Asset Control that supplies back office financial software solutions. Iím part of the Professional Services team that goes out to client sites and puts the system in and then helps customise it and support it as required. As such, I may well be on the road in any number of countries during the week, so keep an eye out! That said, I have just rented a lovely new place with my old Aussie mate Stefan here in Amsterdam and we have lots of couch crashing room for visitors, so if your in the neighbourhood, come on over for a weekend and check out Amsterdam! It will be great to be in a position at long last to be able return some of the fantastic hospitality I have received while I have been on the road.
On a different note, Iíve not spent the past 4 months totally idle with regards to updating my web site. As a bit of a side project for my elderly Aunt and Uncle in London who donít have internet access, I have started creating a Video/DVD of my trip in South America. I hope to have it completely finished in a few months, so keep an eye out for a copy at Christmas! That said, here are the first four chapters for you to check out if your keen:
Any way, thatís the update for now. Who knows what the long term future holds for this little chook. For now itís my new job here in Amsterdam and weíll see where that takes us. Till next time, stay safe and feel free to email me with what ever your update may be Ė I love to hear from one and all!
Lots of Hugs and Kisses
